With my last first full day of law school under my belt, I wanted to share some of my favorites that help me get through what can be a dreary few months. From calendars to coloring books to calisthenics (heh, see what I did there?) I got you covered!
First thing first, fitness is so important, and it's okay if you're not at that "Man, I LOVE working out" point of your life yet. It took me a long time before I developed that relationship with my current fitness regime. But if you start small, you'll be able to work your way up to that intense training you see in Instagram pictures, or to what the trainers to the stars show on their websites. That being said, also make it fun. I signed up for the FabFitFun box last year because it was only four boxes a year, and so far I've loved it. There's a great mix of lifestyle products, fashion items, and fitness gear. Make it fun and make it fashionable. I'm really picky about what I wear to the gym because I don't like to restrict movements. For Zumba, step class, and spinning I like a baggier top, while when I take HIIT classes or weight train I prefer a more form fitting top (you have to make sure your form is right!). Make sure you're comfortable otherwise you'll be self-conscious the entire time and won't get your best workout in. I get a lot of my tops from TJMaxx because they're cute and relatively inexpensive. You can find the one pictured above, here.
I know you might be thinking "how does this girl manage to fit in 2-3 hours of fitness in 5-6 days per week?!"
Answer: time management.
I know I have to get my workouts in, so if that means missing going out with friends or skipping an outing with my mom, then it's on me for not having had managed my time more efficiently. I have multiple calendars for this purpose. That super cute monthly clipboard calendar I purchased at Target is perfect for my desk so I can quickly glance at what I have going on that month. My *bible* is my day planner where I keep all my law school, show, and appointment information. If you've never invested in a good day planner, do not delay. Take some time to decide what you want- for example, I hate the planners with clock times on each of the days because I'm not at the point of my life yet where I'm scheduling meetings upon meetings. After figuring your needs out, head to the nearest Office Max for a browsing session. They always have a good selection of practical planners, but if you're looking for something a little higher end- you can't beat the Kate Spade planners. They usually come in cute designs and are hard cover for long lasting usage. This one is currently on sale for HALF off at Papersource.com!
Finally, while working out is an excellent way to de-stress, nothing compares to the stress relieving activity that is adult coloring books. I've had a pretty decent collection for a while (read: before they went mainstream) because I loved to scrapbook and make my own cards, so I had those great pens. I went to a college where art was a big major, so a lot of my friends had coloring books and we'd color during free time. There are SO many out there and Amazon has an excellent collection from cats to ocean life to city streets- it's actually really hard to choose! I like the detailed books like the Secret Garden book, and others of the sort, because I don't have to worry so much about coloring a lot. I can just color little details and switch up markers and areas of the scene as I wish. If you haven't purchased one yet- I definitely encourage you to because they're really fun! You don't need the super expensive markers either- colored pencils work just fine, and I even use crayons! (But if you want the pens I highly recommend those ones linked!)
As a last note, if you have never tried the Project 7 Gum RUN to your local grocery store and get a package! It's a company that makes specialty flavors (i.e. Birthday Cake (pictured), Red Velvet Cake, Front Porch Lemonade, etc) and when you purchase a package money is donated to various charities and organizations in need. The shop on their website takes you to Amazon in case these gums aren't available in your area. Definitely a delicious gum for a great cause!
I hope these tips help YOU stay sane, too! Stay tuned for my next post which will focus on those knockoff bags you may be tempted to buy!
